Senior Reservoir Engineer

THE COMPANY
Our client is a Calgary based international oil and gas producer, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange with a market cap of CAN$2.1 billion and operations that span three continents.  Over the last 15 years the Company has built up a diversified portfolio that now includes the operatorship of an offshore platform in Australia; major waterflood oilfields in France; natural gas production and processing in the Netherlands; non-operated interest in the Corrib gas field and exploration blocks offshore Ireland; and coalbed methane and tight gas production and processing in Western Canada.  They have strategically pursued the acquisition of long life assets in regions with well established oil and gas infrastructures.  Recognised as a highly professional business with excellent capital management and a strong management team, they have been successful in taking a creative approach to growth, underscored by consistency and a clear strategy for expansion.  Through this they have built a rich inventory of near-term development projects, which will come to fruition through the combination of innovative technology, fast decision making and commercial expertise.  Recognised as France’s largest oil producer with assets in the Paris and Aquitaine Basins; in the Netherlands the gas assets are in the provinces of Friesland and Noord-Holland.  With European operations now a focus for growth, following a recent strategic re-organisation resulting in the creation of a subsurface team to be based in Parentis-en-Born, 70km south of Bordeaux, they are keen to recruit three talented Senior Reservoir Engineers.

THE ROLE
Working within a multi disciplinary environment and reporting to the Asset Team Leader, responsibility will be for the provision of high quality and timely reservoir engineering support to production assets and those under appraisal/development, plus support to the near field exploration effort as required.  A mixture of reservoir engineering activities will ensue as the portfolio consists of complex layered, faulted, heterogeneous reservoirs, with various recovery mechanisms in place that include EOR waterflood projects and unconventional plays.  Working on challenging and high profile operated assets, reservoir engineering activities will include reserves reporting, short and long term production forecasts and well analysis through the maintenance and calibration of reservoir models using industry software.  A key challenge is to actively seek reserve enhancement opportunities, conducting evaluations as required, to implement the most economic reservoir management strategy.  The brief therefore includes monitoring field performance, liaising with production and drilling when appropriate to enhance the value of producing assets.  Involvement in field development plans will include evaluating development scenarios, well locations, recovery mechanisms, concept selection and reservoir engineering input to reservoir models.  This broad remit also includes assistance with the evaluation of assets for potential acquisition, providing reservoir engineering input and demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the risks associated with asset valuations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will be graduates, ideally trained with a major E&P operating company, with an impressive track record of working on appraisal, development and producing projects.  Your in-depth reservoir engineering knowledge will be combined with an understanding of all aspects of reservoir description gained from an integrated team approach. With additional exposure to planning, drilling, field development and production technology interfaces, you will also have a commercial awareness of the reservoir development and production business drivers.  In addition to demonstrable technical strengths, you will be highly motivated with good interpersonal skills and will thrive on the challenges that this varied role will provide and be keen to make a serious contribution to this fast moving company.  French language skills are advantageous.
