THE COMPANY
Our client is a Calgary based international oil and gas producer, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange with a market cap of CAN$2.1 billion and operations that span three continents. Over the last 15 years the Company has built up a diversified portfolio that now includes the operatorship of an offshore platform in Australia; major waterflood oilfields in France; natural gas production and processing in the Netherlands; non-operated interest in the Corrib gas field and exploration blocks offshore Ireland; and coalbed methane and tight gas production and processing in Western Canada. They have strategically pursued the acquisition of long life assets in regions with well established oil and gas infrastructures. Recognised as a highly professional business with excellent capital management and a strong management team, they have been successful in taking a creative approach to growth, underscored by consistency and a clear strategy for expansion. Through this they have built a rich inventory of near-term development projects, which will come to fruition through the combination of innovative technology, fast decision making and commercial expertise. Recognised as France’s largest oil producer with assets in the Paris and Aquitaine Basins; in the Netherlands the gas assets are in the provinces of Friesland and Noord-Holland. With European operations now a focus for growth, following a recent strategic re-organisation resulting in the creation of a subsurface team to be based in Parentis-en-Born, 70km south of Bordeaux, they are keen to recruit two talented Senior Geophysicists.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Asset Team Leader, in a highly autonomous role, you will be responsible for producing quality geophysical work to analyse, interpret and assess current acreage, highlighting the reserves potential and prospective plays which will result in recommendations to drill or further evaluate the existing portfolio. You will provide the geophysical input to prospect generation and therefore work within the team to develop and manage a Drilling Portfolio Inventory. Working within a small multi discipline team you will also assess the potential for untapped reserves on current development opportunities. In addition you will be required to analyse, interpret, question and evaluate regional and basin data to produce technically creative and robust reservoir, source and trap mechanisms, for all new venture opportunities, which the company wishes to assess and pursue. This will be carried out to ensure the risk profile is in line with the requirements of the company strategy and will attempt to understand and reduce associated risks, while identifying new exploration opportunities and developing long term plans. It will be important to display technical leadership with the ability to carry out new ventures interpretations quickly and to a first class standard. A challenging brief, but one where an ambitious and talented geophysicist will make a significant impact.
QUALIFICATIONS
A graduate geophysicist, ideally trained with a major E & P player or large independent, you will have an impressive track record of working on exploration and development projects. First class 3D (and 2D) interpretation skills in time and depth under a variety of exploration and development scenarios are required, with a sound knowledge of attribute analysis, seismic modelling, impedance inversion, seismic processing and well planning. Innovative and adaptable, you will ideally have a working knowledge of state-of-the-art structural and stratigraphic interpretation techniques. Self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a team, you will be seeking a challenging and diverse role, managing multiple projects in a dynamic environment. French language skills are advantageous.
